The Italian ski resort of Cervinia sits in the middle of the Breuil-Cervinia Valtournenche Zermatt district,  and is one of the largest skiable areas in the Alps. From Cervinia you can ski in Italy and Switzerland, and across three valleys. Named after the Matterhorn (Monte Cervino in Italian), the resort is positioned high in the mountains. It’s situated at 2,725 feet and has lifts that take skiers as high as 12,800 feet. With 217 miles of runs and multiple lifts that carry you across the ski area, this is the perfect spot for skiers who don’t like to cover the same slope twice. The altitude, endless miles of skiing and the extensive après-ski are all reasons people come back to Cervinia.

Cervinia Travel Information

  • Check the Cervinia website for a host of useful tools for skiers, including a downloadable pdf of the slope map, webcams of the resort and a snow report.
  • Most skiers who visit Cervinia are keen to ski over the top of the mountain into the neighboring Swiss resort of Zermatt. You can head over by chair lift. The journey is quite long, so be sure to leave enough time, so as not to get stranded on the wrong side. A taxi back, if you do, can be incredibly expensive.
