Killeen is a city in central Texas, best known as home to the Fort Hood Military Base. It’s a relatively small city, but it’s the largest in Bell County.
Killeen has a small airport, the Killeen-Fort Hood Regional Airport. The airport operates alongside Fort Hood’s Robert Gray Army Airfield, and even occupies a portion of the base itself, nestled at the southern end of the Fort Hood Military Reservation.
Killeen-Fort Hood Regional Airport offers only two nonstop flights via two airlines. Outbound flights to Dallas-Fort Worth are available via American Eagle; flights to Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport are available via United Express.
American Eagle and United Express are the only airlines that fly into Killeen-Fort Hood, also. This makes flights into Killeen lengthier for most travelers, as all flights aside from those departing from Dallas or Houston will require at least one connecting flight.

The airport features seven car rental agencies, including Avis, Budget, Dollar, Hertz, and Thrifty; travelers can also find taxis near the short-term parking lot. Cove Taxi is the only livery company that offers onsite airport pick up and drop off.
HOP Public Transit of Texas also serves Killeen-Fort Hood Regional Airport; there is one dedicated bus stop at the airport.
Killeen is a paradise for those who enjoy the outdoors, featuring beautiful, lush forests and gently rolling hills. Multiple public parks and walking trails provide ample opportunities for fun in the sun or a relaxing stroll.
Killeen is home to multiple museums, as well as two giant lakes, Belton Lake and Stillhouse Hollow Lake. Both are ideal for everything from fishing to swimming, boating and more, as well as two golf courses. Nearby Copperas Cove is also home to its own golf course, for 63 holes of outstanding golfing within just 15 miles. The Family Recreation Center and Aquatics Center feature a pool and a water slide; the Aquatics Center is open during the summer months.
The city is also home to one of the only planetariums in the state of Texas, the Mayborn Science Museum; the planetarium and museum are located on the campus of Central Texas College. Killeen’s Vive Les Arts Theatre offers shows throughout the year; Rodeo Killeen also features events all year long.
