Flight time from the US to Algeria depends on your departure airport and other factors, such as the number of stopovers on your flight. For instance, a flight from JFK in New York City might take 12h 5m, but a flight from San Francisco could take 22h. Each additional stopover will also add more time to your flight. There are only a handful of airports in the US that offer flights to Algeria. These include Atlanta Hartsfield International, Dulles International, LAX, and JFK. The international airport in Algeria is Houari Boumediene Airport, which is located outside of Algiers.
Unfortunately, there are no cities in the US that offer direct flights to Algeria. All require at least one stopover, but many flights require two or even three. While this does increase your travel time, it may reduce the cost of your ticket. Only a few cities within the US offer flights to Algeria. These include New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Washington D.C., and Atlanta. Note that in addition to drastic time variations depending on the departure airport, stopovers can add a lot of time. For instance, two stopovers on a flight from New York could mean a 14h flight, but two stopovers on a flight from San Francisco might mean a 22h flight.
The best way to get around Algeria is to hire a taxi. In the north of the country, you can also find shared taxis, called louages. These are more expensive than regular taxis but can get you there faster. Note that car hire is a possibility, but you are required by law to have an escort from Algeria if you do this, and there are police checks that enforce the rule. There are also two train lines – one runs the eastern side of the country and the other runs the western side. Trains are relatively reliable and affordable.
While it can be challenging to get around in Algeria, there are plenty of things to experience. The Pont Sidi M’Cid bridge is worth a visit, and the Basilique Notre Dame d’Afrique is stunning. Le Bastion 23 is also worth exploring. Fort Santa Cruz is an interesting historic site, and Le Jardin d’Essai du Hamma is a relaxing place to enjoy.
All US citizens will need a valid passport to enter Algeria. It must also have at least six months of validity remaining, and you’ll need a blank page for the stamp. You will also need a visa to enter the country unless you arrive by cruise ship. Note that you do not need to show proof of any vaccination, but there are currency restrictions. You are not allowed to take dinar out of the country.
