There are major collections of glass art from the 19th and 20th centuries, reflecting the city’s history as a centre of the glass industry. This industry is the reason why many Americans still know it as “The Glass City”. The museum’s Glass Pavilion opened in 2006 to widespread acclaim and its Centre for Visual Arts was designed by the architect Frank Gehry. Throughout the city, there are more than 40 pieces of public art commissioned from leading artists. Outside the city centre, Hudson Gallery specialises in contemporary art. A few miles south of the city centre is Toledo Zoo. Among its many zoned areas is an African Savanna zone, which aims to give visitors a safari-like experience. The local baseball team is called Toledo Mud Hens. Visitors can book advance tickets to home games which take place at Fifth Third Field.
