The peak season in Lynchburg takes place during the summer months of June to August. Hotel prices and flights to Lynchburg will be at an annual high, so booking several months in advance is advised to beat the prices. Plenty of local events and festivals take place during these months, including the weekly Lynchburg Bluegrass music festival, and the popular Birth of Democracy Festival, which celebrates the birth of the United States.

Shoulder Season:
Savvy tourists can take advantage of the low flight and hotel costs to Lynchburg in the months leading up to summer. The pleasant temperatures of 64-72°F and low travel costs mark this season as one of the ideal times to visit. There are plenty of spring events available around Lynchburg, with many family friendly festivals. The Highland Maple Festival is a traditional maple syrup making festival, and the Jamestown Day in May marks the anniversary of the areas settled by the English.
Located along the banks of the James River, Lynchburg is a city which was first settled in 1757. Lynchburg and the surrounding area has plenty of historic and cultural locations thanks to their status as one of the first founding settlements of the Thirteen Colonies. There is also a modern metropolitan side to the city, with many restaurants, bars, and shopping streets throughout Lynchburg.
Both modern and historical attractions are on show in Lynchburg for everyone, whether traveling as a couple, family, or friends. History enthusiasts will appreciate the Point of Honor house, home of Dr. George Cabell, who was the friend of Thomas Jefferson. The more adventurous visitors can take part in a Riverwalk Trail, enjoying the natural sights of Lynchburg with an afternoon of hiking.
Of course, there are also many shops and restaurants available for the metropolitan tourist. Shopping streets and destinations such as the River Ridge Mall and Omniterrum antique store will keep anyone occupied for an afternoon. Restaurants serving up Southern cuisine are also readily available, as are bars, clubs, and jazz and bluegrass venues for the more mature visitors.
The Greater Lynchburg Transit Company operates a frequent bus service around the city. However, there are also several private taxi companies located in the city, and an intercity rail network for traveling to surrounding destinations, such as Charlotte or Richmond.
The closest airport to Lynchburg is Richmond International Airport (RIC). Car rentals are the most convenient way of getting around, however there are also shuttles and taxis available. Lynchburg connects to the airport via the US-360 West.
