Fine wines, a sporty feel (the city is the smallest in the US to have its own professional sports team – the Green Bay Packers), and some absolutely breathtaking natural beauty make Green Bay a fabulous place for a family vacation or a romantic break. Explore the local wineries with a wine tasting session, and pick up a bottle or two as a souvenir of your stay. If you are a keen hiker, there are plenty of wildlife reserves and parks for you to explore. For example, Barkhausen Waterfowl Preserve is located on the western shore of the Bay and is a brilliant place to see some rare (and more common) native species of bird. If you are looking for an action-packed afternoon with the family out in the great outdoors, then why not visit the Allouez Park & Recreation Department? Here, you can enjoy classes and activities for all ages, or just take a walk and enjoy a scenic picnic if you prefer. Learn more about the rich and interesting history of the area by visiting one of the many museums, such as the Ashwaubenon Historical Society & Museum or the Neville Public Museum, which is especially designed with children as well as adult visitors in mind.
Summers in Wisconsin tend to be wonderfully warm. With temperatures averaging at 66 degrees Fahrenheit, this is the most popular time to visit as you can then enjoy the wonderful outdoor spaces for which Green Bay is so famous. As a result, summertime, and especially the school summer vacations, can also be the most expensive time to pay a visit to this region of the US. In the winter, the weather turns much colder, and there is an average annual accumulation of snowfall in the region of 45 inches. However, there are plenty of activities to enjoy in winter, such as snowmobiling, and you can time your visit to coincide with the Christmas celebrations for a festive feel to your vacation.
Green Bay’s main public transport system is known as The Metro. The Metro consists of a set of buses that cover all of the main routes around the city. You can also take advantage of private tours to the key attractions (such as the wildlife reserves, or to sporting events). Renting a car or taking a taxi is also an option in this city. A rental car will enable you to explore the countryside around Green Bay, too.
