The seats are too narrow and uncomfortable. I do appreciate that there was room for my knees. I hate the boarding circus.

The capital of Connecticut is a town filled with history and culture, having been home to several great writers. But it also offers plenty of appeal for lovers of outdoor activities.
First off – Hartford is a city of culture, and not just because of its large student population. Visit the home of the world-famous writers Mark Twain and Harriet Beecher Stowe, and take a tour around the Wethersfield district which is filled with lovingly preserved 18th century houses. Learn about dictionary pioneer Noah Webster and catch a play at one of the many theaters, a lot of them offering Broadway productions.
The town’s museums also include a fantastic Science Museum with a futuristic 3D theater, the original Colt Factory where the revolver was first manufactured, and a wonderful Children’s Museum filled with toys that will delight families. Sports fans will also be able to catch an action-packed College Football game at the impressive Rentschler Field stadium.
Shoppers are well taken care of, with a large concentration of boutiques in the city center, and diners will be able to take their pick from some of America’s finest Italian restaurants. There are also some excellent brewery pubs such as City Steam, which will offer something to excite any beer drinker.
Getting outdoors is easy in Hartford as well. Take to the golf course, go swimming in a pond in Batterson Park or take a rowing boat down to Charter Oak Landing for some fishing. Head out mountain biking at sites like Case Mountain or Granville Gorge or take a day to follow one of the many hiking trails.
In Hartford you can be as active as you wish. With an exciting, culturally thriving city to explore, visitors can enjoy an urban holiday or escape to the countryside with ease.
Hartford enjoys warm springs and autumn seasons, so visiting around April and May, or in October could be ideal. Autumn may trump the spring though, as it will give visitors a chance to see the glorious New England leaf-fall in progress. Summer is hot, but not overpoweringly so, but festivals like Riverfest can bring crowds. You could try winter for cheap accommodations, but Connecticut can be chilly out of season.
Hartford is a town that caters mainly for motorists. There are buses, and most stops will see a bus every quarter of an hour or so. Buying a day pass is recommended to get the most value. Otherwise, renting a car is easy to arrange and provides by far the best way to get around.
Located halfway between Connecticut’s largest cities, Hartford and Springfield, Bradley International Airport (BDL) processes more than 350 daily flights, and – with five million passengers each year – it’s the state’s busiest airport. The airport is also the location of the Bradley Air National Guard Base.
Flights to Bradley International Airport are available from cities across the eastern US and Canada, including Chicago, Toronto, Dallas, Miami, Cleveland, New York, Atlanta, Minneapolis, Washington DC and Philadelphia.
