Can I fly to Virgin Islands, British right now?

There are current restrictions for travel to Virgin Islands, British at this time. These restrictions are for the safety of Virgin Islands, British citizens and travelers alike and are as follows: Entry restrictions

The British Virgin Islands currently only allow British Virgin Islanders, Belongers, Permanent Residents, naturalized citizens, and freight and cargo vessels to enter. Starting September 1, work permit holders with confirmed employment, work permit exempt holders, students, and other specified groups may enter the territory. Certain special categories of persons will only be allowed in the territory for up to five days. This includes aviation crew, maritime crew, healthcare practitioners/medical staff, emergency maintenance, repair and other technical personnel and other essential specialized workers.

Entry requirements

Travelers must have a medical certificate with a negative COVID-19 PCR test result issued within 5 days prior to travel. All persons eligible for entry to British Virgin Islands must register in advance through an online portal. Starting on December 1, arrivals must submit a BVI Gateway Traveler Authorization Certificate and is projected to be live the week of November 2. A charge of USD 175 per person will be collected from all travelers to cover the cost of in-Territory testing and the BVI Portal app.

Quarantine requirements

On arrival, travelers except those traveling from the UK and the Dominican Republic will be required to take PCR test. Once the result is negative, they will be allowed restricted movement to designated places. These locations are being coordinated by Environmental Health and other Government agencies. A final PCR test will be administered on day 4 and once this test returns negative, travelers will be able to move within the Territory, without limitation. A positive test at any time after arrival will result in a mandatory 14 day quarantine Travelers arriving from the UK are subject to 14-day quarantine in an approved location and are subject to tests on arrival, day 7 and day 14 and if all are negative be allowed full movement within the Territory. All arriving travelers will be issued with and required to wear a tracking bracelet for at least 8 days.

Getting around Virgin Islands, British

Car or jeep hire is the most popular means of transport, if you’re staying on one island, though taxis are readily available. To rent a car, you need to buy a BVI license, as well as showing proof of the drivers license from your country of origin. This only costs $10.

For island hopping, inter-island British Virgin Island flights are available, and a luxurious way to travel. Most BVI flights are based on Beef Island.   • The British Virgin Islands are a very popular destination for honeymooners and also for weddings. If you’re planning on getting married here, you’ll need to arrive at least three days before the date of the wedding. You can apply for your marriage license on arrival at Tortola.
  • Fishing is popular in the warm waters of the Caribbean, but be aware that tourists need a fishing permit to remove anything from the sea. This can be purchased from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Labor. Alternatively, go fishing with an islander – permits are only required for tourists.
  • As you’d expect from a Caribbean island, clothes are usually casual, even for evening dress. However, don’t wear your swimwear away from the beach or pool. It’s not appropriate when you’re in the town.
  • Diving is popular and there is an abundance of reefs and wrecks to explore. The waters around the island of Anegada are especially good. More than 300 ships have run aground on the coral surrounding the island, which leads to plenty of wrecks to explore.
  • Tortola is the largest and main island and the site of the airport. Since your flight to the British Virgin Islands arrives here, it’s worth spending some time on the island. There are many restaurants and shops as well as good beach accommodation.
  • Jost Van Dyke Island is only four miles long and one of the most relaxing places to visit. The bars boast beach-side hammocks and the largest, Foxy’s, has a renowned New Year’s Eve party. If you’re visiting, make sure you take plenty of cash. There are no ATMs on the island and many places don’t take cards.
  • Try the local food and drink: a freshly-caught lobster for supper and a “painkiller” cocktail. The latter is made of rum, pineapple juice, coconut, orange juice and fresh nutmeg and is the cocktail of choice in the country.
