Transit is only allowed at Auckland (AKL) for maximum 24 hours. From June 19, transit will be open to all Cook Islanders and Cook Islands Permit Holders who have been present in New Zealand for at least 30 days and whose main purpose of travel is to return home, or to take up or resume employment.

Best Time to Fly to Rotorua

Most travelers visit the area in the summer (December to February) or autumn (March to May) months. During this time the weather is fine and clear. The winter months (June to August) are cool. While it rains throughout the year, the region gets more rain during winter. A number of festivals are held in Rotorua each year and it is a great idea to time your visits to take advantage of these festivities and lifestyle events. The Bike Festival, Home and Garden Show and the Blue Baths Annual Wedding and Special Events Expo are some great options to explore.

The winter months of June, July and August are the low season in the area when the weather is cooler and there is more rain.
