Yes, there are currently restrictions on flights to Rotorua along with the rest of New Zealand. Before you book or search for flights, consider the following restrictions: New Zealand has restricted entry to all travelers who are not New Zealand nationals (Cook Islands, Niue, Tokelau) or permanent residents, with a few limited exceptions. The following people should seek approval from Immigration New Zealand (INZ) using the limited exceptions process: Partners, dependent children (aged 24 years and under) and legal guardians of New Zealand citizens and residents. Australian citizens and permanent residents who normally live in New Zealand Essential health workers Other essential workers who are specifically agreed to by the New Zealand Government (see here for specific details) Samoan and Tongan citizens making essential travel New Zealand-based partners and dependent children (aged 19 years and under) of a work or student visa holder who is in New Zealand Critical humanitarian travel Maritime crew All of the above travelers will be subject to mandatory isolation at a government facility for 14 days upon arrival unless they’re airline crew members or people transiting through. Travelers may only transit New Zealand if they’re Australian nationals or residents on their way to Australia, or they have government approval. From June 19, transit will be open to all Cook Islanders and Cook Islands Permit Holders who have been present in New Zealand for at least 30 days and whose main purpose of travel is to return home, or to take up or resume employment.. Best Time to Fly to Rotorua

Most travelers visit the area in the summer (December to February) or autumn (March to May) months. During this time the weather is fine and clear. The winter months (June to August) are cool. While it rains throughout the year, the region gets more rain during winter. A number of festivals are held in Rotorua each year and it is a great idea to time your visits to take advantage of these festivities and lifestyle events. The winter months of June, July and August are the low season in the area when the weather is cooler and there is more rain.
