Gdansk overview

The Tricity of Gdansk, Sopot and Gdynia is well known for its rich and magnificent culture along the Baltic Coast in Poland. As the capital of Pomerania, Gdansk is a major seaport of Poland. The city has been an important one throughout history, most notably when it was the first battle site during the German invasion of Poland that sparked World War II.

Standing in the midst of the Motlawa River, Gdansk’s Old Town embodies the rich cultural history of the city. Colorful buildings are raised along long streets and historic city gates, with the most notable street undoubtedly being Royal Road. This car-free zone is a pedestrian-friendly jaunt where visitors can immerse themselves in the architectural beauty of Gdansk’s historic assets.

The history of the city is also on full display at sites like The Hall of the Main city, the Tower Clocks Museum and the aptly named Gdansk History Museum. Architecture buffs shouldn’t miss the plethora of churches that dot the city, either.

One of the best ways to unwind in Gdansk come the warmer months is by laying a towel on the beach and enjoying the sights and sounds of the Baltic Sea. Of the beaches in the area, Stogi Beach remains a local and tourist favorite for its wide expanses and soft sand.
