Belgium uses the euro. All major credit cards and traveler’s checks are accepted. You will be charged extra if your traveler’s checks are in an obscure currency. ATMs are easy to find.
Belgium’s country code is 32. City codes are required for all calls to Belgium. To dial another country from Belgium, dial 00 followed by the appropriate country code. Internet cafés are easy to find.
Service charges are usually included in bills, so extra gratuity isn’t necessary. It’s still customary to tip porters, coatroom and bathroom attendants.
Belgium is largely safe from major crimes, but tourists should watch out for petty crime like pickpockets and muggings.
There are no required vaccinations for entry to Belgium. Health services are good, but can be expensive. You are advised to carry your own health insurance.
The electricity is 220 volts, 50Hz using European-standard two-pronged plugs.
