The flight time from the US to Samoa depends on the departure city, as well as the number of stopovers and their duration. Of course, the average flight to Samoa is between 23h 45m and 28h 5m, with flights from LAX (Los Angeles International) having shorter flight averages of 14h 20m to 19h 0m, depending again on stopovers.
There are currently no direct flights to Samoa from cities within the United States. However, passengers can find one-stop flights out of all major cities, including Seattle, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, and Honolulu. Fiji Airways, Air New Zealand, and Virgin Australia offer the most routes to Samoa, with various stopover destinations and durations. Samoa flight deals may add additional stops for lower fares, so be wary of total connections and travel time when booking.
Samoa is fairly easy to navigate by car. At night, however, drivers should be wary of wandering dogs and pigs, as well as pedestrians. Car hire is available from agencies throughout the islands, and visitors can also rent bicycles and scooters if they prefer to explore on two wheels. Taxis are available in Apia, but they’re not metered, so you need to negotiate fares before you hop in. There are a number of colorful buses roaming the islands. There are main terminals, but aside from that, you’ll just need to flag one down if you want to catch a ride. Passengers and vehicle ferries run between Upolu Island and Salelologa, operated by the Samoa Shipping Corporation.
Samoa is home to the Aleipata region, which offers white sand beaches, beautiful waterfalls, and a variety of charming villages. This area is about 65km from Alpa, offering access to Falefa Falls, Mafa Pass, and Flipisia Falls. Eco-tours of the islands, including Tanumapua rainforest, offer a glimpse at local and conservation wildlife. At the Palolo Deep Marine reserve, tourists can enjoy diving and snorkeling with coral reefs aplenty. Surfing is also plentiful, although not allowed on Sundays in many traditional villages. Upolu Island, the main and most populous island in Samoa, is great for exploring, with the main commercial center and plenty of countryside to see. Travelers can swim with turtles at the Auala Green Turtle Conservation and watch the wildlife at the Tafua Peninsula Rainforest Preserve, as well.
Samoa requires all US citizens traveling to the country to have a valid passport that includes at least one blank page. Passports are only required to be valid for the duration of your stay. You will not be required to obtain a tourist visa if you are staying for less than 90 days. Non-citizens that are US nationals will need to obtain a visitor permit to visit the country, which can be obtained from the Consulate General of Samoa.
