Can I fly to Vilnius right now?

There are currently restrictions on flights to Vilnius along with the rest of Lithuania. Before you book or search for flights, consider the following restrictions: Entry restrictions

Lithuania has begun to ease its travel restrictions. Although flights from outside of the European Economic Area are still suspended for everyone except for Lithuanian nationals and residents, citizens and residents of countries in the European Economic Area, Switzerland. Residents of Australia, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, Rwanda, Thailand and Uruguay are also allowed to enter Lithuania. Travelers must arrive at Vilnius (VNO), Kaunas (KUN), Palanga (PLQ) or Siauliai (SQQ).

Entry requirements

Travelers must complete a questionnaire and present the confirmation of the completed electronic form (QR code) to the carrier when boarding the vehicle. Frontier workers and those crossing the border between the Republic of Lithuania and another European Union country every day or every working day (those travelling for work-related purpose, pupils, students and trainees) must complete a questionnaire once a month. Travelers must present a medical certificate with a negative COVID-19 test result issued within 48 hours prior to arrival or in Lithuania (registration for a test within 24 hours from arrival, travelers by air or sea will be registered by the NPHC staff at an airport or seaport concerned.)

Quarantine requirements

Travelers are subject to a 10-day mandatory self-isolation (regardless of the result of the test). There is a possibility of shortening the self-isolation time by taking a COVID-19 test, at personal expense, on the 7th day of the self-isolation at the earliest, with a negative result thereof, they must submit the results to the NVSC and await their permission to leave isolation before the end of the 10 day period. However, regardless of the shortened self-isolation time, it will be required for 14 days of arrival to restrict the number of contacts, and in the case of those working, it will be required to commute only between work and home and wear a face mask and keep safe distance and follow other general instructions for the prevention of the coronavirus in their interactions with others. Milder self-isolation requirements will apply for travelers arriving from the US and Gibraltar, and stricter requirements will apply for those arriving from Albania, Bahrain, Seychelles and Slovakia. Check here for more information.

Transiting rules

Isolation and testing requirements will not be applicable in the case of those traveling by air when not leaving the airport transit area.

If you are looking to book a trip to Vilnius and are outside of the restricted areas, please take the proper precautions and stay informed about traveling during COVID-19.

The capital and largest city of Lithuania, Vilnius has a rich history and a reputation as a thriving city at the heart of the new Europe. Vilnius contains one of the largest surviving medieval quarters in Europe, cosmopolitan restaurants, stylish boutique hotels, and museums proliferate in this city of roughly half a million people. Added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1994, the city’s Old Town (Senamiestis) contains almost 2,000 Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque buildings which are centered on the spectacular Cathedral Square. The Vilnius Cathedral has become a national symbol since it was first built in in 1387-88. Although the cathedral was turned into a picture gallery during the Soviet times, it was reconsecrated in 1989 and mass has been celebrated daily ever since. Vilnius’ diverse neighbourhoods will take you on a journey through the centuries, from the ancient Gediminas Castle that has its roots in the ninth century to the Soviet-style residential areas that conjure up memories of Lithuania’s recent history. Located in a former Soviet prison, The Museum of Genocide Victims is one of the city’s most visited attractions, detailing the many of years of repression under the Soviet authorities.

Best Time to Fly to Vilnius

The best time to visit Vilnius is between May and September when a large number of events and festivals are held around the city. Vilnius never feels more vibrant than in summer, the season when the people of the city embrace the outdoors. The city can be quite cold from October until early March, but once the weather is warm enough, outdoor terraces pop up all over downtown. The locals love eating and drinking al fresco and many restaurants will even provide outdoor blankets to ensure that their guests keep warm as night falls. The influx of summer tourists makes this period the most expensive time to visit the city but adventurous tourists will find plenty to do during the off-peak and shoulder seasons. For example the celebrated Vilnius Jazz festival that takes place annually over the course long weekend in the middle of October.
