When is the best time to fly to Biloela?

The weather in Biloela is sub-tropical humid and is therefore pleasant all year round. However the peak season tends to run during the local summer months from December to February.  Visitors who wish to make savings should plan to visit outside of the local school summer holidays, which take place from Mid-December to February.  Visiting in the local winter months when the weather sits in the high 60’s and is still very pleasant and can mean significant travel savings.  Visitors will also save money by avoiding public holidays including Australia Day in late January and Anzac Day on the 25th April.  The town also celebrates its annual Rockfest in March and the Callide Valley Show in mid-May. Visitors not intending to coincide with any of these events will find cheaper accommodations and travel options outside of these times.

City overview

Biloela is a unique destination that offers a taste of outback Australia yet is only an hour and half from the fabulous Queensland Coast.  A fantastic way to start exploring the town proper is by walking the Cultural Heritage Trail. The trail includes The Spirit of the Land mural which depicts the history of woman of in Bananashire as well as the Greycliffe Homestead and Museum, a historical 19th century slab built family home. 

Within the town visitors should also head to the Queensland Heritage Park & Rural Hinterland Information & Visitor Center.  The center is home to a number of interesting local artifacts and is an ideal place to gain a better understanding of the town and its origins.

Biloela offers a range of amenities including Tom Dawson Park, a perfect location for a picnic that offers views over the local surroundings and towards Mount Murchison in the distance. The town also boasts the Bilolea Aquatic center where visitors can enjoy excellent swimming facilities.

Just 7 miles from the city is Lake Callide.  This lake is very popular with water sports enthusiasts and anglers forming part of the Bass to Barra fishing trail.

Further highlights in the surrounding Bananashire region include Cracow, a historic gold mining town and the Bells Creek Conservation Park.  A large number of visitors to Biloela come to visit Kroombit Tops National Park, the resting place of the WW2 Liberator Bomber, Beautiful Betsy.

Biloela is tantalisingly close to the magnificent Queensland coast with the town of Gladstone just one and half hour’s drive away.  From Gladstone visitors can explore the Great Barrier Reef and travel by boat to a choice of beautiful and secluded coastal islands. Alternatively visitors can simply choose from a large number of beautiful gold sand beaches.

Getting around Biloela

The center of Biloela is fairly small and can be easily explored on foot.  Tours are available to Kroombits Park whilst there are car rental options for those wishing to visit the coast or Lake Callide.   There is also a coach service which runs between nearby towns.

Getting from the Airport to the City

Thangool Airport (TGH) is found 6 miles to the south of the town.  Biloela Taxis are available for transfer from the airport to the town and charge a set price.
