When you travel to Atlanta from Charlotte, your flight will depart from Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT). Charlotte Douglas International Airport is one of the primary international airports in the state of North Carolina and it’s placed around six miles from the city’s Central Business District. Once you arrive at your destination of Charlotte, your plane will land at Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL). Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta is one of the largest airports in the United States and can be conveniently found just over 11 miles from the city center.
When you fly from Charlotte Douglas International Airport to Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport, your trip will almost always be direct. There are a few different airlines that are known for commonly servicing direct trips for this route, and these include American Airlines. If you do not have a direct trip between the two cities, you will have either one or two layovers before reaching your final destination of Atlanta.
If you do not have a direct flight from Charlotte to Atlanta, you can plan on either having one or two layovers during your voyage. Common cities where these layovers may occur include Miami, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C. When you have one layover, it will normally add around 3h to your trip in comparison to a direct flight. If you will have two layovers, you can plan on this adding approximately 10 to 15h in comparison to a nonstop journey. In general, you will find that journeys for this route that require layovers are often more affordable than voyages that are nonstop.
As long as you are a United States citizen, you do not need to worry about having a visa or a passport to fly from Charlotte to Atlanta, or to make any other domestic trips within the United States. However, to fly anywhere domestically, you will need to have a REAL ID. United States passports count as REAL IDs, meaning that you can use one for the trip. Some government-issued driver’s licenses are also considered to be REAL IDs, but this will depend on what state the license is from. One way to tell if your piece of identification is considered to be a REAL ID or not is to look for a small star symbol located near the top of the card. Always make sure to verify whether or not your identification card is a REAL ID before you depart on your trip. It’s important to note that any traveler that is under the age of 18 is not obligated to have a REAL ID, or any form of identification to travel in the United States, as long as they are with a legal adult.
