We were rebooked from our original 7 am flight to a 9:25 am flight. We tried but could not get seat assignments upon online check-in. At the airport, the security officer almost did not let us through to the gate, since our boarding pass had no QR code and said "seat assignment at the gate." When we made it to the gate and asked for seat assignments, the gate agents kept telling us that they were not authorized to assign us seats and that we would be assigned seats 30 mins prior to departure. They referred us to the service center that would not help either. Since they also said that the flight was full, we were left in doubt if we were going to make it onto this flight. Finally, after everybody else's seats had been assigned, about 15 mins to departure they assigned us two separate seats. We could not sit together. Whoever designed seat assignment and boarding procedures at Alaska Airlines must have zero understanding of how to make such a process work smoothly and efficiently. We'll think twice before booking another flight with Alaska!

Start by choosing an eco-friendly airline such as United Airlines to make your trip. The airline is not only continually modernizing their fleet adding more fuel-efficient planes, but they also continually try to streamline their operations both in the air and on the ground to reduce fuel use and carbon emissions. American Airlines is another good airline choice on this route because in the year 2020 they committed to buying 9,000,000 gallons of sustainable aviation fuels over three years.

One of the benefits of bringing very little with you on your trip is that you are bringing less weight on your plane and thus the plane burns less fuel to take you to Cabo San Lucas from Los Angeles. A good investment for the environment is to put together an amenities kit that you can take on the plane with you that includes things such as cups, headphones, and a reusable water bottle that saves you from using items that the airlines provide that soon end up in landfills. When you are on your flight pull down the shades and open the air vents to keep the plane cool so there is less fuel burnt cooling the interior of the airplane down.
