Peak Season:
The summer months are the most popular time to travel to Amarillo. School is out, the weather is warm and many outdoor festivals take place in Amarillo.
Off Season:
Winters are drastically cold in Amarillo. Snow is common from October to March and there isn't much to do in the city when it's cold. But, if you don't mind driving around the Texas countryside and stopping off at steak joints and cowboy ranches along the way, it's likely you'll find a cheap flight to Amarillo during the winter.

Visitors to Amarillo are advised to rent a car from one of the national car rental companies in the city. This is the most popular way of getting around as it is the only way to see most places. To rent a car, a full national driver's license, and in some cases and international driver's license, is required and drivers must be at least 25 years (some companies rent cars to those aged 21 to 24 with surcharges).
Amarillo has a bus service that runs from Monday through Saturday between 6.15am and 6.45pm and taxis are a good way to get around but must be booked through one of the many private taxi companies operating within the city.
