Plenty of leg room, courteous and efficient staff, good food. To be improved: boarding was very slow. Also, it should be possible to lift the arm rests in Premium Economy to lie down when no other passengers are seated in one’s row.

If you’re flying from Detroit to New Jersey, you’ll take off from Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport and likely land at Liberty International Airport in Newark, New Jersey. While there are certainly other airports you could fly into in the state, this is the busiest and the one that’s closest to New York City, which is a major draw for this part of the country. There are other airports to look into though, such as Trenton-Mercer and Atlantic City International. Newark Liberty International Airport sits right between Elizabeth and Newark in New Jersey. It’s an airport that serves these two cities, as well as the New York metropolitan area. The location is three miles away from downtown Newark. It’s only nine miles from the Manhattan borough. This airport is actually the busiest of all the airports serving the New York City region.
United offers direct flights between Detroit and Newark, New Jersey. It’s a short flight at only an hour and 44 minutes. Delta also covers this trip. You’ll find that the price for a direct flight is around the same as what’s offered for flights with a stop in between much of the time, however it varies.
If you fly with United on a stopover flight to New Jersey from Detroit, you might be heading down to Houston on your way. Another option they have is stopping in Chicago at O’Hare. There are some stopovers that are under an hour, others that are almost three hours. In any case, the travel times are about six hours or less. American Airlines has stops in Charlotte. Also, they offer a couple to Chicago. Spirit covers this flight with a stop in Orlando for 2h 45m. You can also go with JetBlue and stop in Boston, or Southwest and stop in Chicago Midway, Nashville, or Baltimore. The stopovers aren’t usually more than an hour or two no matter what airline you go with. These flights will likely be four hours or less. You may find some that go a little over that six-hour mark though.
You’ll only need to present a valid form of identification when you show up at the Detroit airport for your flight. There is no requirement for a passport or visa on these flights.
