Parque de Alameda is Marbella’s lush, green urban oasis, complete with an impressive display of tropical plants and horse-drawn carriages ready for hire to squire you about the city in style. If you’d rather stay in the downtown area and avoid the beach for the day, head to Parque de Alameda to rest up.

If you’re traveling to Marbella sometime in July or August, chances are you’ll be in town for some of the city’s most famous celebrations. The Festival of Saint Bernabé, Marbella’s patron saint, takes place the week of July 11 and provides savory samplings of tapas, flamenco and live music. There’s a festival every June that’s dedicated entirely to celebrating pescaito, or fried fish, due to its high rank on Marbella’s list of favorite foods.

Before Isabel and Ferdinand claimed the south of Spain in the Crusades, all of Andalucía was under Moorish reign, and reminders of this history still exist in the form of ancient ruins and architecture. The Murallas del Castillo (“Castle Walls”) are currently being restored, but they’re an attraction not to be missed for history buffs and architecture enthusiasts alike.
