Iceland’s official currency is the Islensk Krona, which is divided into 100 aurar. You can exchange money at the banks, which are located all over. You can use credit cards almost anywhere and banks and hotels usually accept traveler’s checks. US dollars get the best exchange rate.
Iceland’s international country code is 354. To call another country from Iceland, dial 00 followed by the appropriate country code. Internet cafes are easy to find.
Bills already include service charges, so you don’t need to tip.
Iceland is very safe, but it’s still a good idea to be wary of petty crime and changing weather conditions, especially if you’re heading out on the road.
You don’t need any vaccinations before entering the country, unless you’re coming from an area infected with yellow fever. Then you’ll need a yellow fever vaccination certificate. The quality of medical care is very good, but you may need to pay upfront in cash, so make sure you’re covered by your health insurance.
The electrical current in Iceland is 220 volts, 50Hz and uses two-pinned plugs.
