Are there currently restrictions on travel to Hammamet related to COVID-19?

Yes, there are currently restrictions on flights to Hammamet along with the rest of Tunisia. Before you book or search for flights, consider the following restrictions: Tunisia's new travel restrictions are now in effect. From August 26, all travelers, regardless of what country they fly from, must take a PCR test within 72 hours of their departure and present the negative test results at the airport upon arriving in Tunisia. Entry requirements now vary depending on the prevalence of the epidemic in travelers’ country of residence. Travelers from "Red" countries may only enter Tunisia if they are Tunisian residents or nationals. They must present a negative coronavirus PCR test from within 72 hours of their departure, and will be subject to 7 days in government quarantine and an additional 7 days in self-isolation at home, subject to a negative COVID-19 test. They must also sign a declaration to confirm that they will abide by these rules. Individuals resident in “Orange” countries will need to present a negative coronavirus PCR test from within 72 hours of their departure, and will need to self-isolate in their place of residence or a hotel at their own expense for 14 days. If they wish to leave self-isolation they may do so from the sixth day after their arrival, by paying for a PCR test and receiving a negative result. Individuals resident in “Green” countries will not be subject to any coronavirus-specific entry requirements and will not need to take a test before departing. The full categorized list of countries can be found here (in French).. If you are looking to book a trip to Hammamet and are outside of the restricted areas, please take the proper precautions and stay informed about traveling during COVID-19.

Who needs France when you can visit the Tunisian Riviera? Cheap flights to Tunisia are a great way to save money – money you can splurge instead on resorts like Hammamet, the jewel of the Tunisia Riviera. This sophisticated resort town is 40 miles south of Tunis, and borders the Sahara desert and the Mediterranean Sea. Stroll on the picturesque beach, explore the ancient medina or soak your troubles away in the healing mineral baths. Now the site of high-end hotels, Hammamet was once a small fishing village. The resort’s name was derived from the Arabic word al-hammamat, which means “the baths,” and started booming when wealthy and artistic European and American tourists flocked to its shores. Now it’s a wonderful juxtaposition with modern facilities and ancient relics harmonizing for an exotic vacation. Activities revolve around the 15th-century medina and bazaar, where visitors wander through the labyrinth of shops, people watch, and bargain for carpets, pottery, leather and jewelry. With all the money you saved on your Tunisia flight, you’ll need to borrow a donkey to cart away all your purchases.  When you need to recover from shopping fatigue, take a break at the famous baths. Located in the medina since Ancient Rome, the baths are set alongside an ancient mosque with a medieval castle looming overhead. And if you want to take a break from the medina, relax on the beautiful six-mile-long beach. Enjoy the picturesque beauty of clean, sandy beaches lined with swaying palm trees in front of a glittering sea, dotted with colorful fishing boats. A cluster of low-rise resort hotels sit in lush gardens south of the old town creating the perfect place to enjoy your holiday with entertainment, gourmet restaurants and plush accommodations.

Hammamet Travel Information

  • Medina: Dating back to 1500, Hammamet’s medina is made up of just a few streets that intersect and steep in authenticity. The walls, erected by the Hafsids, hold what was once an exchange ground for trade and local economic activity. Now, you can find small, bustling restaurants, and quaint shopping areas. If you pick up souvenirs while you’re there, be sure to save your receipts for your return Hammamet flight.
  • Beaches: Those booking flights to Hammamet surely have one destination in common: the beach. Miles of sand span along the coast, where swimming and land games meet. Stroll the entire length, but be careful when crossing over private beaches of high-end hotels. Most areas are clean and not very crowded, welcoming families, but not teeming with children. If you’re still out in the evening, watch as the white-washed houses turn pink, yellow and orange with the arrival of sunset.
  • Kasbah: Dating back to the 12th century, the Kasbah attracts quite a bit of history buffs booking flights to Hammamet. Although it’s not as busy and thriving as it once was, walking along the base allows for a unique experience inside the newly restored (and sometimes desolate) interior. It’s also the perfect place to catch views of the Gulf of Hammamet.
  • Town: If you’re aching for something more productive than your beach catnaps, complete your Hammamet travel with a visit to its blossoming town, full of fun and memorable opportunities. Incredibly pedestrian friendly, streets are safe for children, and are jam-packed with restaurants and shops perfect for families, couples, or the independent voyager looking to get lost in the shuffle. The small center with two long avenues isn’t loaded with overbearing architecture, just a simple environment to meet people and experience local lifestyle.
  • Sebastian’s Villa: What was once a hopping party palace in the 1920s is now a cultural center open for visitors booking flights to Hammamet. Owned by George Sebastian, the villa spared no expense creating the perfect atmosphere for luxury. Its arcaded swimming pool, sitting bath, huge archways, and glorious views welcome hundreds of visitors a day to experience is lavish setting.
