Flights to Cebu, Philippines from the United States range from about 16.5h-35h. Flights on the shorter end of the spectrum depart from points west in the United States, such as Honolulu and Los Angeles. If your departure city is located in the Midwest or along the east coast, such as out of Chicago or New York City, you can expect a flight time on the longer end of the range, due to geographical positioning and the increased likelihood of two or more stopovers.
Unfortunately, there are no direct flights to Cebu from the United States. Your best chance of booking as short of a flight as possible is to depart out of a major international airport, such as New York’s JFK, Los Angeles International, or San Francisco International. These airlines are most likely to offer flights with just a single stopover. Keep in mind that the further east you depart from, the more expensive a single-stop flight to Cebu is most likely to be. Try to book flights with the airlines that regularly fly into Cebu, such as Philippine Airways, EVA Air, Cathay Dragon, and Asiana Airlines, as this can also cut down on your total flight time. You can expect to experience stopovers in cities in Asia, like Taipei, Seoul, Tokyo, and Hong Kong, all common to this route and dependent on your airlines.
If your destination is Cebu City, you’ll likely be flying into Mactan-Cebu International Airport (CEB) on the island of Mactan, which is about 9 miles west of the city. To reach downtown Cebu City from the airport, you can take a taxi, which is the fastest option. You’ll see two different types of taxis at the airport, the yellow airport-only taxis and white city taxis. A ride in the white taxi to the city will cost around $4, while a ride in a yellow taxi will cost about $5-$6, with a journey time of only a few minutes. You can also opt to take Grab, the southeast Asian version of Uber for about $3.50-$4, though you need to download the app to arrange for a ride. There is also a bus that operates out of the airport. It will cost you less than $1 for this option, although the bus will drop you off at SM City Cebu mall, after which you must walk to your accommodations.
Go shopping and nosh on tasty street food on Colon Street. Explore the city’s religious roots by visiting Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral. Enjoy waterslides and lush greenery at Mountain View Nature Park. Surround yourself with beautiful butterflies at Jumalon Butterfly Sanctuary. Swim with whale sharks on a tour with Oslob Whale Sharks Tour Company.
United States citizens traveling to Cebu, Philippines need a valid passport. A visa is not required for visits under 90 days, however.
If you book a flight to Cebu City, you will be flying into Mactan Intl, which is the city’s only airport. Cebu City Mactan Intl (CEB) is located 4.7 mi from the center of Cebu City.
