Austria Cheap Flights

Austria has come a long way since the von Trapp family. Its tumultuous time as a World War II battle zone is long gone and a new, modernized Austria has emerged. The historic castles and palaces of bygone eras remain, but are usually seen by visitors standing atop snow-capped Alpine mountains.

Flights to Austria’s majestic cities of Vienna and Salzburg attract millions of travelers a year. Salzburg, the birthplace of Mozart, lures travelers to its quaint mountainside motif with chocolate bars and liqueurs. In Vienna, visitors waltz through parks and dine on pastries and wine.  Whether you’re in search of Mozart’s melodies or seeking retreat in small mountainside villages, Austria has enough culture to keep any traveler occupied.  Grab your schnitzel or strudel and The Best of Mozart CD, and settle in on your cheap flight to Austria.  The von Trapp family is long gone, but the sound of music still carries on in Austria.

Austria Climate

Austria enjoys a temperate Central European climate with four distinct seasons. Summers are hot with cool nights. In Vienna and other low-lying cities temperatures during the day can get uncomfortably hot over July and August. Winters are cold, below freezing in January and February. The ski season in the Alps runs from December to April but the mountains are also popular with hikers and climbers over the summer when the weather is usually warm and bright.

When to Fly to Austria

Peak season:

Vienna is a year-round city, though tourism is most popular in the main holidays: Easter, Christmas and summertime. In the Alps, winter is obviously peak season for skiing, though the summer is popular with walkers, hikers and bikers.

Off season:

Late fall (from October through to the start of December) and late winter (Late January through to March or the start of spring) is the least popular time to visit, because of the less appealing weather.

Austria Insider Information

  • Salzburg is a beautiful old, elegant city. Mozart fans book Vienna flights in hordes looking for buildings associated with the great composer. The yellow house at number nine, Geitregasse street in which Mozart was born is now preserved as a museum. Also open to the public is the house in which he lived between 1773-1780 at Makartplatz 8.
  • Austria’s capital is also its cultural center and the most popular city to visit for tourists. Vienna has an abundance of museums, galleries, theatres, churches, cafés, restaurants and hotels. If you don’t know where you want to start, an organized sightseeing tour from the tourist board will plan out the sights of the city and help you become orientated. There are a number of tours on offer: guided walking tours, sightseeing tours by bus, boat, or bicycle and, more unusually, tours by “Segway”, a standing motorized scooter that transports you around the city.
  • The town of Innsbruck in the Tyrol region of the country is located in the Inn valley, surrounded by mountains. To get up to the mountains, the quickest way is to the take the Hungerburg Bahn.
  • Sports enthusiasts book flights to Austria for ski vacations in the Alps. Austria has an abundance of world-class ski resorts. One of the most famous is the fashionable Kitzbuhel, which has an extensive area of pistes, excellent (if expensive) après-ski facilities and great nightlife.
  • The Austria tourist Web site is a great resource for pinpointing unusual attractions. For example, an interactive map shows you the locations of all outdoors swimming lakes throughout the country. Also find museums and galleries, spas, theatres, or view live web cams.
  • Zell-am-See, located on a lake, has been populated since Roman times. Today it is a picturesque ski resort, popular with all ranges of skier during the winter. It’s in the summer, however, that you can really see the beauty of the town’s location. Because of its location close to the Grossglockner mountain, the highest in Austria, it is possible to ski even in the summer months. But sailing, swimming and sunbathing by the lake can seem more appealing.
