Yes, there are currently restrictions on flights to Sharm El Sheikh along with the rest of Egypt. Before you book or search for flights, consider the following restrictions: Egypt's airports are open to travel including for tourism. Some airlines are imposing special requirements, such as the wearing of face masks. All travelers arriving to Egypt will have their temperature checked, must complete a monitoring card with personal details, and will need to provide confirmation of valid health insurance policy to airport authorities. From September 1, all travelers (including those who hold Egyptian nationality) arriving from overseas, to any part of Egypt must present a negative PCR test certificate issued within the preceding 72 hours prior to arrival to Egypt. Children under the age of 6, of all nationalities, are exempt from providing negative PCR test certificates. No other exemptions have been confirmed. All foreign travelers must have a negative PCR test certificate issued within the preceding 72 hours prior to arrival to Egypt. Tourists flying directly into the airports in the coastal governorates of the Red Sea (Hurghada and Marsa Allam), South Sinai (Sharm El-Sheikh) and Marsa Matrouh that are unable to present acceptable evidence of a negative PCR test will need to undergo testing on arrival for a fee of USD30 and required to self-isolate in a hotel while awaiting the test result. If the result is positive, travelers are subject to a 14-day quarantine in a separate room allocated for quarantine within the hotel. If symptoms persist they will be transferred to a public hospital or private hospital of choice, under the supervision of the Ministry of Health.. Monarch is a comfortable airline to fly with although they aren’t the cheapest option, although they are cheaper than British Airways for checked in baggage with prices starting at around £17.00. British Airways do provide complimentary food and drink on their flights to Sharm el-Sheikh though which can more than compensate for the extra baggage costs.

How to get from the airport to the city centre?

The airport is just 18km North-East of the city, and there are three options to get you from there to the city to start your vacation. You can choose to get a taxi to your hotel or any part of the neighbourhood, or anywhere for that matter. Make sure to agree on a price before you get in to save yourself the hassle of being overcharged. It’s also a good idea to speak to a few different drivers and make out you have other potential options to give yourself a better chance of haggling and agreeing a good price. There are minibuses you can get from outside of Terminal 1, pay as you get onboard and just tell the driver where you wish to be dropped off as there are no bus stops along the route. Finally you can rent a car although this isn’t a great idea unless you are familiar with driving around Egypt. The airport is only 15 minutes away by car so if you’re not planning to explore further your best bet is either the bus or taxi.
