You can fly to New Orleans from a lot of airports in New York but the most flights will go from either Liberty International Airport in Newark, JFK in Queens, or LaGuardia in Queens. There are some direct flights, as well as those with one stop. New Orleans’ airport is Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana. It’s 11 miles from the downtown district of the city. It serves all of the city and the southeast region of the state of Louisiana. The airport is just 4.5 feet above sea level making it the second-lowest airport in the world.
Those looking for a direct flight to New Orleans will find several available. They’re offered by Delta, JetBlue Airways, United, and Spirit Airlines. The flight will have you in the air for anywhere from about three to three and a half hours.
United will land at Chicago O’Hare on the way down. Spirit will as well. American makes a stop in Charlotte. You might also stop in Houston with United. Delta will fly through Detroit sometimes. American Airlines also has a stop in Washington DC. You could also go with them to Dallas at DFW. Spirit also has a couple of flights that go to Fort Lauderdale before moving on to New Orleans. For the most part, you’ll find that stopovers are an hour or so, and not much more than three hours. Southwest flies this route from LaGuardia too. They have stops in Nashville, St. Louis, Chicago, and Dallas. Most travel times aren’t more than six hours with many of them much lower.
There is no need for a passport or visa for this domestic flight. Just remember your valid form of photo identification.
