Dinard overview

A cosy seaside town in the Ille-et-Vilaine department of Brittany, Dinard has been attracting visitors for centuries, and with Dinard–Pleurtuit–Saint-Malo Airport just 2.4 miles (4 km) away, today the town sees holidaymakers from across the world make the pilgrimage to its shores. And not without reason; Dinard boasts excellent beaches, as well as a healthy population of fine restaurants and local bars, all underpinned by some of the best hotels in northern France. Actress, Joan Collins is a frequent visitor, as were Picasso and Winston Churchill. It is due to this star-studded guest list that Dinard has been crowned, ‘Cannes of the North’.

But the most prominent draw is the town’s beaches, all of which are sandy, clean and expansive, and fronted by stunning Belle Époque villas. The main beach is the sprawling Plage de l’Écluse, closely followed by the Plage du Prieuré. The city’s third beach is Saint-Énogat, but all are equally as popular and equally as busy. Away from the beaches, attractions include a casino and restaurant complex, while the nearby towns of Saint-Briac-sur-Mer and Saint-Lunaire are home to large golf courses. Alternatively, grab your board and head for the beach of Longchamp and discover why surfers throughout Brittany hail it as a paradise.

Looking further afield, but sure to visit the ancient walled city of Saint-Malo, located only 10 miles (16 km) away. The town contains many sites of interest, including the château of Saint-Malo, Cathedral of St. Vincent and Solidor Tower, with the entire spectacle worth a glance due to its uniquely medieval feel.
