Dean Martin wasn’t kidding around when crooned about the beauty of Capri. A lush island off the coast of Italy, this Mediterranean gem is filled with hidden coves, rocky shorelines, and authentic collaborations of Italian food, wine, and atmosphere.
When you book your Capri flight, you’ll be just three miles from the tip of the Sorrentine Peninsula. The location is remote enough to feel like you’re in the middle of nowhere, but close enough to the mainland to know you’re getting the real thing. Whitewashed homes and majestic villas dot the shoreline, as lemon trees sprout up all over narrow lands, and flowers fill the many courtyards.
No matter where you are on the island, the views range from magnificent to spectacular and the surrounding seascapes create a romantic and relaxing background that truly intoxicates. Since most vacationers book flights to Capri between Easter and the end of October, the island can tend to feel overrun in the summer time, but somehow, the crowds are never too much to handle, and it always truly feels like you’ve escaped the world and found a secret getaway. International tourists and Italian vacationers alike buzz around the Marina Grande, which is the main port area, to poke in and out of the major hotels, restaurants, cafes, and shops to experience all that the island has to offer. No matter what section you’re in – Anacapri, Marina Piccola, Punta Carena, or Bagni di Tiberio- when you travel to Capri, there’s no possibility of disappointment.
Summer rakes in the crowds, as most voyagers plan Capri flights around the hot and sunny weather. Summer months (especially between June and August) are the hottest, with temperatures sizzling between 75 and 85 degrees, and seaside breezes keeping things at a balmy level.
Although some travelers stay in Capri well into the autumn season, that is when the most rainfall occurs, which can certainly hamper a perfect beach day but this is also the best time to find cheap flights to Capri. Once the rainy season (November and December) ends, it’s time for the island to cool down a bit, resting at cool temperatures in the 50s and 60s.
Shoreline: Although you may be booking flights to Capri expecting miles of white sand beaches, there’s something unique about this Italian shoreline that come as a surprise to many first time visitors: Its mountainous landscape allows for little sand, so beaches in Capri are typically rugged and rocky, creating secret little coves and inlets as you stroll the water’s edge. Despite the rocks, there are plenty of places to swim. Clubs have been established all over the coast, called stabilimenti balneari, which allow swimmers to visit and swim in lifeguard-protected waters among stunning, jutting cliffs, and breathtaking views. Most people, however, are satisfied just lying by the hotel pool, adoring the unbelievable views.
Capri Hollywood Film Festival: As if movie star royalty needs another reason to book flights to Capri other than its rapture and exquisiteness, the Capri in the World Institute hosts the Capri Hollywood Film Festival every December. This over-the-top, high-ranking event is an annual nod to Italy’s greatest film classics. At the festival, directors, producers, and actors speak of the key figures in the international film scene, and the future of filmmaking in general. A-listers like Nicole Kidman, Hugh Jackman, Vanessa Redgrave, Faye Dunaway, Mira Sorvino, and Geoffrey Rush have all attended. To get as close to the celeb-studded action as possible, book flights to Capri far in advance.
Limoncello: Decadence is something that Italians seem to master quite well, from food, wine, scenery and music, these people know how to luxuriously and authentically relax. The famous Canali family of Capri is no exception to the rule. These liquor lovers found a way to blend lemon zest, alcohol, sugar, water, and herbs into a concoction known as Limoncello. The recipe for the tasty liqueur, made official by the Canalis in 1989, was sent all over the world and well received by cocktailers everywhere. While you don’t need to book a cheap flight to Capri in order to enjoy the yummy beverage, you won’t be disappointed if you do.
