Hartford enjoys warm springs and autumn seasons, so visiting around April and May, or in October could be ideal. Autumn may trump the spring though, as it will give visitors a chance to see the glorious New England leaf-fall in progress. Summer is hot, but not overpoweringly so, but festivals like Riverfest can bring crowds. You could try winter for cheap accommodations, but Connecticut can be chilly out of season.
Hartford is a town that caters mainly for motorists. There are buses, and most stops will see a bus every quarter of an hour or so. Buying a day pass is recommended to get the most value. Otherwise, renting a car is easy to arrange and provides by far the best way to get around.
Located halfway between Connecticut’s largest cities, Hartford and Springfield, Bradley International Airport (BDL) processes more than 350 daily flights, and – with five million passengers each year – it’s the state’s busiest airport. The airport is also the location of the Bradley Air National Guard Base.
Flights to Bradley International Airport are available from cities across the eastern US and Canada, including Chicago, Toronto, Dallas, Miami, Cleveland, New York, Atlanta, Minneapolis, Washington DC and Philadelphia.
