Knowing we had a short layover at DFW, we paid for seats near the front of the plane for 4 people to reduce risk of missing connecting flight. When we boarded, there was no overhead space for our carry on luggage. There was no AA enforcement for people boarding ahead of their assigned group, no enforcement of carry on rules (multiple bags, large items) or requiring smaller (2nd) items to go under seat. We had to find overhead space 10 rows back and thus made our seat upgrades useless as we had to make our way back during deplaning. Customers trying to do the right thing are penalized while AA does nothing to discourage violators. Will not pay for AA upgrades again and will choose different airline if pricing is similar.
