Croatia is a scintillating country, blessed with attractive beaches, intriguing history, and thriving culture. It’s hard to book flights to Pula without seeing the ancient, most significant parts of the country’s core, in the form of churches, squares, and museums. Once known as Ancient Polensium, Pula has now developed the reputation of being the regional center of Croatia, and the home of its most popular and sacred Roman ruins. Its striking amphitheater beckons music fans booking Pula flights to experience a live concert in an entirely different, and incredibly rewarding setting. The Premantura Peninsula – just south of the city – will have you strolling dreamily down the rocky bays and coves that hold some of nature’s most divine sights. The commercial life here isn’t lost upon its antiquity, either. Nightlife, restaurants, and cultural activity buzz through every corner and square of this pretty palace of a city. The people, the stories, and the past all don Pula with a comfortable, small town feel, with a big-city edge on exposure. Book flights to Pula today to experience all this rich Croatian city has to offer.

Pula Climate

If you book flights to Pula in the summer time, you’ll be welcomed by hot, dry weather, with temperatures resting in the 80s, and rainfall rarely making an appearance. Winters are dry as well, but temperatures drop to the 40’s and cool things down a bit. The most rain, however, comes in the fall, when the transition between summer and winter is at its peak, and showers pepper the 60 degree weather. Spring warms things up a bit, bringing temperatures to the 70s, but manages to stay relatively dry.

When to Fly to Pula

The most popular time to book flights to Pula is undoubtedly the summer time, when temperatures soar, the sun never goes away, and rain is a thing of the past.

Peak Season:

Summertime beckons many vacationers to plan Pula flights, with its sunny days, plenty of peninsula activities, and its balmy nightlife. With so much to do here, and so many ways to enjoy the weather, it’s easy to see why most tourists book flights to Pula in the heat.

Off-peak Season:

Although the springtime boasts gorgeous temperatures in the 70’s, it unfortunately is also the time of year that calls for the most rain. While you’ll need to bring an umbrella, you can rest easy knowing that cheap flights to Pula are much more accessible during this off season period.

Getting Around Pula

Once your flight to Pula arrives, don’t be discouraged by the lack of airport transportation. Although there is no bus or shuttle directly onsite, there is a bus station nearby, called Valtura, from where you can depart. If you do choose to take the bus, they are on 15-30 minute schedules, depending on the time of day. Buses run daily from 5:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Bus 1 goes to Autocamp Stoja, and Buses 2 and 7 go toward Verudela, toward the more popular hotel accommodations.

Tickets can be purchased at newsstands for roundtrip fares only. Also, taxis always roam the terminal gates, waiting for a tired tourist with heavy bags to surrender to the price of a cab.

Pula Insider Information

History Museum: This gorgeous 17th century Venetian citadel is a beautiful architectural wonder all in itself. Located on a lone hill (called Kastel Hill) in the center of town, this museum holds most of the maritime history of the area within its walls. Take a stroll along the square and climb the hill for a cultural experience that will help you appreciate the history and perception of Pula’s past. Plus, if you climb all the way to the top of the citadel, you’ll be able to catch fantastic views of the city, so be sure to pack your camera on your flight to Pula.

Cathedrale: If you’re a history buff or religious enthusiast booking flights to Pula in search of a bridge between two interests, then the center-of-town Cathedrale is the perfect place to stop first. Built from the rubble of the amphitheater, its main alter is made from a Roman sarcophagus in the third century, and the beautiful floor reveals fragments of fifth and sixth-century mosaics that are not to be missed. The structure has endured hard times, specifically through a fire in the 1200’s, but it managed to restore and rebuild, keeping much of its authenticity. Its stunning façade was added in the early 15th century and the tall, gleaming bell tower in the 17th century.

Roman Amphitheater: The wonderful thing about bridging past and present, is that you never really have to let go of either to find enjoyment in both. Emperor Augustus began building this monstrosity in 2 BC, and it was finished 16 years later. In 14 AD, the Roman Amphitheater housed enormous gladiatorial contests from the start, fitting 2,000 people within its medieval walls. Today, the amphitheater is a different kind of entertainment residence – hundreds of film fans book flights to Pula each year to visit the museum, which also holds the Croatian Film Festival every July.

Temple of Augustus: Dedicated to Octavianus Augustus, the bold first emperor of Rome, the Temple of Augustus resides in the heart of the square, easily accessed from everywhere in Pula. Its first trying experience was when it converted into a Christian church (as Christianity spread throughout Croatia), and then again when it experienced damages in World War II. Now, a small museum inside chronicles its up-and-down past, in English, Italian, and Croatian captions.
