The small volcanic island of Lanzarote has a much more laid-back feel to it than its sister islands of Tenerife and Gran Canaria, but this Canary Island is a huge tourist draw. Nature is the biggest attraction on this 38-mile wide island, but travelers on Lanzarote flights also find the back-to-basics attitude of the island to be compelling. Lanzarote has a desert-like climate and UNESCO declared the entire island a biosphere reserve in 1993. • A trip to Lanzarote wouldn’t be complete without visiting its most popular destination: Parque Nacionalo de Timanfaya. See the dormant volcanoes and visit the César Manrique Foundation located in the late beloved artist's house and studio which is built on five volcanic bubbles. In the center of the park there’s a restaurant, El Diablo, that was also one of Marique’s creations.
• Party it up in one of the most spectacular venues in Spain, Jameos del Agua. Designed by Manrique these galleries are composed of interconnecting caves and grottos with a lake, garden, swimming pool, bar and nightclub.
• Opening to the sea, the El Golfo is a natural amphitheater miraculously created by volcanic rock formations after the Timanfaya 1730 eruption. Spend the morning exploring the crater then walk over to the village and have lunch at one of the many seafront restaurants.
• One might not associate lush vineyards with a volcanic island but Lanzarote has been home to the El Grifo winery in Masdache since 1775. Drive through the La Geria valley, visit the El Grifo Museo, an old bodego that Manrique converted into a museum. Don’t forget to pick up a few bottles of wine to take home. 
• Visit the island’s biggest Sunday street market in the quaint village of Teguise, once the capital of Lanzarote. After the market explore the village’s other attractions including the Castillo Santa Barbara, Palacio Spinola and Palacio de Marques.
