Crete Travel Information

  • Crete is full of festivals that are informational and entertaining. Summer time specifically is when most festivals take place including the Chania's Summer Festival and the Heraklion Summer Festival. Chania Summer Festival takes place July through September and is a celebration of Greek life that includes concerts, plays, exhibitions, and traditional Cretan dancing and music in the streets. The Heraklion Summer Festival is a summer arts festival that takes place throughout the city during the summer months.
  • Take a day trip to Phaestos or Matala while you're in Crete. There are plenty of charter boats that come and go from the island.

Crete airports

Flights to Crete are available from many points in Europe, although most direct flights are summer charter flights from one of the other points in Greece. Olympic Airlines and Aegean Airlines have regular flights to Crete from Athens.
