For many visitors to Jordan, it is the temperature that determines the best time to book flights to Amman. Between March and May, the temperatures are warm but pleasantly so. If you want to experience some really sizzling heat, though, the months of June to August will give you plenty of that! If you go during these hottest months, just make sure to pack some sunscreen, cover up with light clothing, and stay indoors when the sun burns most fiercely.
Visit in April to avoid the rainier season and to participate in or spectate the gruelling Dead Sea Ultra Marathon. This extreme test of endurance starts 2,950 feet above sea level and ends 1,300 feet below sea level over a 31-mile course. If this seems a bit too much, there are other races involved in the marathon for less experienced runners, including the half-marathon and the standard marathon. Plus, people have the opportunity to choose whether to enter as a group or individually.
March is also a good time to visit to miss the rain, but watch out for the sandy desert wind that replaces the rain.
Travel during the Muslim festival of Eid to experience the bright colors and joyful festivals associated with this period. The city usually takes part in a week-long celebration at the end of July to mark Eid and the end of the fasting period of Ramadan. Islamic New Year in the last week of October is another good time to visit the city, as it really comes alive with food, drink, music, and other festivities. A great way to travel cheaply is to book your flights to Amman outside of the school holidays. The colder months of December and January can also be quieter times, and make for a wonderful Christmas holiday with the family.
