Planning an island getaway is always a good idea and, for U.S. travelers, the Caribbean is a great choice. Its proximity (beginning just 50 miles from the U.S. coast) and the increasing number of available flight routes make it one of the most convenient destinations for a tropical adventure.

However, with so many Caribbean islands to choose from, narrowing it down is the most difficult part. While location, convenience and availability of deals make the Caribbean a great place to get away, each island has its own personality, perfectly suited for different types of travelers.

If there’s one way you can learn a lot about a traveler, it’s in the bag. Take our quiz to decide which Caribbean island is right for you based on your packing style. Then read up on your results and search for flights to make this Caribbean dream vacay a reality. Happy packing!

Jamaica

You are a minimalist packer, which may have something to do with the fact that where you’re headed, you won’t need to get out of swimwear. Jamaica is the perfect spot to bask in the sun and soak up natural beauty while indulging both your relaxing and adventurous sides.

Puerto Rico

You’ve probably packed to mix of fun and functional items, which makes Puerto Rico your perfect match. Puerto Rico has a unique culture and an interesting history, along with the perfect mix of stunning views and plenty to see and do. From water sports and lazy beach days, to exploring the rich history and quaint shops of old San Juan, to trying your luck at the casino, there is no shortage of ways to fill your vacay days on this beautiful island.

Bermuda

Like with your suitcase, you want to fit as much into your vacation as possible. This makes Bermuda your perfect fit. Bermuda offers tons of activities (trekking, spas, swimming, pristine pink sand beaches and a rich history) but it’s not typically known for being budget-friendly. That said, there are ways to save. Consider an apartment rental instead of a pricey hotel, skip taxis and explore the island on air-conditioned public buses and ferries (or rent a motorbike for more flexibility) and limit the number of times you eat out (if you do rent an apartment, take advantage of the kitchen to save).

Bahamas

Packing a mere hour before leaving? Aimlessly tossing in a mixture of items for the beach and a good night out? If this sounds like you, you may want to consider the Bahamas as your next vacation. The Bahamas are the perfect spot to enjoy the beach by day and bars, comedy clubs, casinos and restaurants by night. Your packing didn’t involve a ton of pre-planning and your trip doesn’t have to either.

Aruba

For you, your lack of packing style *is* your packing style. Always on the lookout for an adventure, your past experiences have imparted you with the knowledge that some of the best adventures happen when you don’t overplan. Aruba offers an exciting, on-the-go atmosphere, which allows you to explore at your own pace.  From beautiful beaches to exciting nightlife, which includes lively bars, beachfront dining and casinos, Aruba has a lot to offer the traveler who is ready for anything.

Dominican Republic

Squishing everything into one suitcase so no additional baggage fees are incurred at the airport is the sign of a savvy traveler. If there are ways to cut costs, you will find them (so you can save for that much-deserved splurge later). The Dominican Republic is perfect for savvy spenders. It’s one of the least costly Caribbean islands, but it delivers in terms of gorgeous beach-front accommodations, all-inclusive opportunities and plenty of fun in the sun.

Cuba

Just like you daydreamed about colorful Cuba long before your trip, you like to envision the items in your luggage before you pack them. You appreciate having a mental snapshot of the places you go and the things you will do. Much like Cuba’s easy going yet unique culture, your packing style is laidback, but your luggage is certain to contain some interesting items. Cuba is known for its bold colors and you’re known for owning that one rather vibrant shirt (which definitely made its way it into your suitcase). While there are certain limitations for U.S. travelers heading to Cuba, with a number of direct flights from the U.S., it’s easier than it has been in the past. Read our tips on planning your trip to Cuba and learn more about what you can expect as an American while you’re there.

Barbados

You live for preparation and love to be the person that has that one thing your travel companion forgot (because, let’s be honest, they always forget it and you always have it). Barbados is a spot with so much to see and do. From snorkeling to catamaran adventures to indulging in a local fish fry, activities abound but you’ll want to do your research. With an increasing number of flights, it’s easier than ever to make Barbados your next island getaway.

Now that you know which island is a perfect match to your packing style, it’s time to start planning (so you can start packing).
