Airport Overview
Austria’s reputation for efficiency and user-friendliness is perfectly epitomized by the wonderful Salzburg WA Mozart International Airport. The second-largest airport in Austria – and the gateway to the world-famous Ski Amade region – modern, functional Salzburg International Airport is roundly considered one of the easiest, most pleasant airports to transit through in the world.
Flights to Salzburg International Airport are provided by a number of airlines, including several low-cost carriers such as Ryanair and easyJet – offering short, inexpensive connections to leading European destinations. Be warned that flights to Salzburg are harder to find in the ski season (November-March) so book early, to avoid disappointment.
Terminal Transfer
Salzburg International Airport’s “barrier free” access policy means that – in the unlikely event that you have to transfer between terminals – this can easily be accomplished on foot.
Getting into Town
Bus: You can make use of public bus lines 2, 8 and 27 to get from Salzburg Airport to the downtown area. Tickets can be purchased from the conductor. Bus line No. 2 goes between Hauptbahnhof railway station and the airport every 10-20 minutes, and takes about 20 minutes to complete the journey. Bus line No. 27 departs the airport every 15-20 minutes, and serves Hauptbahnhof via Wals/Viehhausen (journey time is approximately 40 minutes). Bus line No. 8 operates from Monday to Saturday only, departing every ten minutes from the airport via Salzburg city center (15 minutes), and terminating at the park and ride Alpensiedlung.
Taxi: Taxis are available outside the arrivals terminal to take you to the Hauptbahnhof railway station (a short walk from the center of Salzburg). The trip to the station should take up to 20 minutes.
Car Parking
The parking garage is located within five minutes’ walking distance of the airport terminals. Short-term parking (for a maximum of 24 hours) is available in car parks P1 and P2. Long-term parking is available in the parking garage or in the outdoor car parks P3 and P7.
Information Desks
There are plenty of well-signed, prominent information desks scattered around Salzburg International Airport. Staffed by friendly, helpful people, you’ll have no trouble getting good information at any one of them.
Airport Facilities
Money and communications: A bank (Salzburger Sparkasse), and numerous ATMs and currency exchange offices are available in the terminal buildings.
Luggage: Left-luggage and airport locker facilities are available in Terminal 1, charged at a daily fee per item stored. There is also a lost-and-found office in the arrivals hall, and a new service, whereby any prohibited items that you can’t take on board (knives, lighters, cosmetics, etc.) can be picked up at your destination.
Conference and business: Two small conference rooms (20 people max) operated by Airest are located on the first floor of the main terminal building, while the Dachcafe can seat 40 people for business meetings. There are also postal services available, should you need to send, print, copy or fax any important documents.
Other facilities: Baby changing rooms and a medical service center, and full access and comprehensive facilities for disabled passengers (the airport is famous for the “barrier-free traveling” experience it offers to disabled passengers).
Wi-Fi: Free Wi-Fi is available in many areas, including check-in, shops, restaurants and departure areas.
