Lion Air Check-in

Check-in for domestic flights begins two hours prior to departure and continues until 30 minutes before the flight leaves. For international flights, check-in begins 2.5 hours before departure and continues until up to 45 minutes before takeoff.

Lion Air baggage allowance

All passengers are permitted to bring a single piece of carry-on luggage weighing up to 7 kilograms and measuring up to 40 cm x 30 cm x 20 cm. Everyday personal items, including purses and laptops, are also allowed to be carried on to all flights.

As for checked baggage on domestic Lion Air flights, business class travelers are permitted to check one item weighing up to 30 kg. Economy classes are permitted to check one item weighing up to 15 kg. For international flights, business class passengers are permitted to check one item up to 30 kg, and economy class passengers are permitted to check one item up to 20 kg.

Lion Air does not disclose specific pricing information for oversized luggage. However, it appears that the airline charges some sort of fee per kilogram. Contact Lion Air for more information.

Lion Air does not appear to have a policy regarding fragile luggage but assumes no liability in the event of damage. There is no information regarding the airline’s policy concerning sports equipment or oversized items.

Lion Air legroom

Legroom is fairly standard on Lion Air. In business class, however, luxury leather seats are available. They offer an additional two degrees of recline as well.

Pre-arranged seating

It appears that pre-assigned seating is used on most Lion Air flights. There is no option on the airline’s site for requesting specific seats, but it appears that passengers may call the airline to request specific seats. Most of the planes are Boeing 737-900ERs, which have three seats on either side of the center aisle in economy class and two seats on either side of the aisle in business class.

Airline overview

Lion Air is the largest privately operated airline in Indonesia. From its main base in Jakarta and several hubs, it offers domestic and international service to 79 destinations. The airline is banned from operating in European airspace, however, so it does not offer service to any destinations in the European Union.

In addition to its main base, which is Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Jakarta, Lion Air operates out of three additional main hubs. They are located at airports in Surabaya, Makassar and Batam, which are all located in Indonesia.

Lion Air passengers are permitted to carry on one item of luggage weighing up to 7 kilograms. Carry-on luggage may not exceed 40 cm x 30 cm x 20 cm in size. Unlike most modern airlines, Lion Air does not offer online check-in for any of its flights. However, the airline does maintain an official policy regarding check-in times. For domestic flights, or flights within Indonesia, passengers are advised to arrive two hours prior to departure. Check-ins begin at that point and continue until up to 30 minutes prior to departure. For international flights, passengers are advised to arrive about 2.5 hours prior to departure, and that is when check-ins commence. They continue until up to 45 minutes prior to departure.

•How can I track my Lion Air flight?
While many modern airlines offer free flight tracking information via their websites, Lion Air does not. However, Lion Air flights can be tracked using third-party websites. FlightAware, for instance, may be used to track most Lion Air flights. It appears that Lion Air flights may also be tracked via theFlightStats website.

•What are the seating options and costs on Lion Air?
For some reason, Lion Air does not disclose whether or not passengers can select specific seats prior to departure. There is no information regarding possible fees, either. However, the majority of the airline’s fleet consists of Boeing 737-900ER planes, which have three seats on either side in economy class with an aisle down the middle and two seats on either side in business class with an aisle down the middle.
