When I arrived at the airport I was told I was now on standby as the flight was overbooked. Passengers who arrived 5 minutes before departure were let on ahead of me, while I had shown up 2.5 hours ahead and had dutifully waited by the gate for 1.75 hours. I asked why I was changed to standby and not other customers. I was told it was an algorithm that the staff didn't know why but probably because it was Air Canada flight that I had booked through United.
