When I arrived at the airport I was told I was now on standby as the flight was overbooked. Passengers who arrived 5 minutes before departure were let on ahead of me, while I had shown up 2.5 hours ahead and had dutifully waited by the gate for 1.75 hours. I asked why I was changed to standby and not other customers. I was told it was an algorithm that the staff didn't know why but probably because it was Air Canada flight that I had booked through United. At the very last minute I got on the flight but it was stressful and confusing and not sure why I was put to standby instead of other passengers - the communication should have been better. I wasted hours just waiting to find out what was happening.
