When is the best time to fly to Missoula?
High season in the state of Montana is during the summer months of June till August, as this is the best time to enjoy the wonderful outdoor activities for which this part of the US is famous. However, traveling during the hot summer months is likely to be more expensive than off peak seasons. Beat the crowds by visiting a little earlier than other people, in May or June and you can take advantage of cheaper travel and still experience some beautiful sunshine. Winters in this region tend to be snowy, but visit during the Christmas period to soak up the festive mood.
Set amid lush hills and valleys, and majestic mountains too, Missoula also has a wealth of cultural attractions for visitors to explore. Keen hikers and mountain bikers will love the Rattlesnake National Recreation Area, which has plenty of hiking and biking trails to keep you busy in some gorgeous scenery. Visit the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation to learn about the natural and cultural history of this famous antlered resident of the Montana area: this child-friendly museum is a great place to spend an afternoon. The Missoula Art Museum is filled with beautiful art works both old and new, and you can top your day off with a picnic by the babbling waters in Caras Park. If you are seeking more things to do with a young family, then be sure to head down to the Carousel, and to the Dragon Hollow Play Area. Fort Missoula Museum will delight all enthusiasts of history, and military history in particular, as it will tell you all about the city's role as one of the earliest military outposts in the US. In the evening, why not catch a play or a concert in the Wilma Theater, or check out some of the great bars and restaurants on offer in downtown Missoula?
