Fliers should leave extra time when flying out of JetBlue’s own terminal, T5, at JFK. The blue-hued hub’s eats and shops are worth perusing.
JetBlue pulls out all the stops when it comes to unlimited (and free!) in-flight snacks and drinks. Terra Chips, anyone?
No need to set the DVR – the discount carrier features 36 free live channels via DIRECTV.
Flying overnight? Fret not over restlessness or sleepy eyes with JetBlue’s complimentary Shut-Eye Service (think eyeshades, ear plugs) and Good Morning Service (hot towels and coffee).
Online check in is available up to 24 hours prior to departure, but no less than 90 minutes before the flight. For customers traveling without checked baggage on domestic flights, a boarding pass must be obtained at least 20 minutes prior to scheduled departure. Customers traveling domestically with checked baggage must get a boarding pass at least 30 minutes prior to departure. Passengers must get a boarding pass at least 60 minutes before departure for international flights (with or without checked baggage). All customers must be at the gate at least 20 minutes before departure.
One carry-on item limited to 26 inches long, 18 inches wide and 12 inches high for Airbus A320 planes, or 24 inches long, 16 inches wide and 10 inches high for EMRAER 190 planes.
One personal item less than 18 inches long, 15 inches wide and 8 inches in height.
Any carry-on bag that does not fit in the overhead bin must be checked.
The first checked bag is free on JetBlue. A $40 fee applies to the second checked bag and a $75 fee applies to a third checked bag. (Boxes are not accepted as checked baggage on international flights.)
A checked bag may not exceed 62 inches in overall dimensions (length + width + height) or weigh more than 50 pounds.
A $50 fee applies to a bag between 51 and 70 pounds, a $100 fee applies to a bag between 71 and 99 pounds, and a $75 fee applies to a bag that measures between 63 and 80 inches. Bags that exceed 80 inches are not accepted.

For changes or cancellations, customers can use the Manage Your Flights page. Customers may cancel a flight 24 hours from the time it was originally booked at no extra charge, as long as travel was booked at least seven days before the scheduled departure date. Non-refundable tickets can be changed or scheduled prior to scheduled departure for a fee of $100 per person plus any difference in airfare. A full refund can be gained for changes and cancellations made to refundable fares prior to scheduled departure. Changes and cancellations can be made by calling 1-800-JETBLUE or online.
Infants who are at least three days old, but younger than two years old may sit in an adult’s lap for free. Customers traveling with a lap child must call JetBlue after booking their flight to give the name and birth date of the infant.
Senior fares are not available.
JetBlue’s free traveling pet program is called JetPaws and offers a special bag tag for your pet carrier, a list of pet etiquette guidelines and the ability to earn TrueBlue points. Pet carriers cannot be more than 17 inches long, 12.5 inches wide and 8.5 inches in height and cannot weigh more than 20 pounds. Pets must be booked via phone (1-800-JETBLUE) and a non-refundable pet fee of $100 per flight segment applies. Only one pet is allowed per passenger and the total number of pets per flight is limited. A pet and carrier count as one personal item.
Standard baggage allowances apply.
Golf equipment is allowed on all flights and will not incur any additional fees provided it does not exceed weight limitations. A golf bag’s contents are limited to 14 golf clubs, three golf balls and one pair of golf shoes and will count as one checked bag.
Bicycles are accepted in hard-sided, padded bike cases or with the handle bars secured sideways and the pedals removed. All bikes are counted as checked luggage and must be covered in plastic foam, a cardboard box or other protective material. A $50 fee per bike applies for domestic and international flights. Other excess baggage fees may also apply. Overweight baggage fees do not apply, but a bike – like each piece of regular luggage – still must be less than 99 pounds. If a bike in its case is less than 62 total inches and less than 50 pounds, a fee doesn’t apply.
Skateboards are allowed as conditionally checked items.
Ski and snowboard equipment is allowed at no additional charge except on flights to or from the Dominican Republic. Each item must be in an appropriate case and counts as a checked bag. Weight limitations apply to skis and snowboards, but standard dimension requirements do not.
Fishing equipment will not incur extra charges, but each item must be in an appropriate hard-sided container and will count as one checked bag. Weight limitations apply to fishing poles, but standard dimension requirements do not. Fishing poles may be carried on if they fit in the overhead bin. Small hooks and fresh-water hooks are also permissible in carry-on luggage, but deep-sea fishing hooks must be in checked baggage.
Tennis racquets can be carried on and will count as one piece of carry-on luggage.
Only one surfboard per case is allowed and each surfboard counts as a checked bag. A surfboard and case combination that weighs more than 100 pounds is prohibited. A fee of $50 per surfboard each way applies on domestic and international flights. Surfboards are not allowed on flights to or from Bermuda, Santo Domingo and Santiago.
Scuba diving equipment such as regulators, buoyancy compensators, masks, snorkels and fins are allowed as either checked or carry-on baggage at no additional charge. Compressed gas tanks are not allowed.

A selection of free snacks and beverages is available on all flights. Passengers can purchase a larger Eat Up box of snacks for $5.99. JetBlue offers 36 channels of free DIRECTV at every seat, along with newly released movies ($5.99 each on domestic flights and free on flights operating outside the continental United States) and more than 100 channels of free SiriusXM Radio. In-flight Wi-Fi is slated to become available in 2013.
TrueBlue is JetBlue’s travel loyalty program. Members earn Award Travel points, have access to special online features and get early access to deals and news. Earned points can be applied to flights, magazine subscriptions, vacation packages, charitable donations and more.
