A leading hotel chain in the U.K. is expanding the number of accommodation venues in the country.
Travelodge is to open 12 new hotels offering a total of nearly 1,500 more rooms in cities like London, Cambridge, Edinburgh and Liverpool.
The discount hotel group, formed in 1985, is adding 575 new rooms in London, bringing itself on track to become the British capital’s largest hotelier by the 2012 Olympics.
Paul Harvey, Managing Director of Development at Travelodge, said: “The addition of so many sites is just the start to what will be a large number of exchanges in 2009. Since the onset of the recession we have been offered more locations and going concerns than ever before, often in prime locations that just one year ago would not have been viable.
“Given that budget hotels only amount to 13 percent of the U.K.’s hotel market, there is clearly strong potential for growth. With a strong pipeline of properties identified I fully expect Travelodge to exit the recession in a stronger position than we entered.”
