Beset by supply chain problems and a crippling machinists’ strike, the production line for Boeing’s highly-touted 787 ‘Dreamliner’ is back in business.

Now that machinists are back on the job and supply chain problems are behind it, Boeing just mated fuselage sections and wings on the project’s fifth airplane. This “signifies our return to steady production rhythm,” says Jack Jones, vice president of 787 Final Assembly and Change Incorporation.

This means five of the six long -range widebody 787s designated for critical flight tests are now in varying stages of production.

The ‘Dreamliner’ has proven a bit of nightmare for Boeing to get off the ground. Airlines around the world have put in major orders for the long-range twinjets, aircraft which promise to fly farther on less fuel than current jets.
