The pilot of the U.S. Airways flight that landed safely on New York’s Hudson River is to write two books.

Captain Chelsey “Sully” Sullenberger was hailed a hero after he successfully brought the aircraft to land on the water after birds hit the engine. All 155 passengers and crew survived the ordeal which took place in January.

William Morris, a division of HarperCollins, is to publish the two books which will be written with the help of an author, the publisher announced.

The first book, which has been scheduled for release later this year, will be the captain’s autobiography and will cover his childhood, his military experience and the U.S. Airways emergency.

Michael Morrison, President and Publisher of HarperCollins Publishers U.S. and Canada, said: “We are honored to be working with Captain Sullenberger. In a time seemingly devoid of heroes, Sully is a real one who has shown humility and leadership by example.

“It is a thrill for us at HarperCollins to have the opportunity to work with him to bring his story and life lessons to readers worldwide. Captain Sullenberger has touched the lives of many people around the world and the outpouring of letters and messages have been phenomenal.”
