Orlando International is the most family-friendly airport in the US, according to an American Society of Travel Agents (ASTA) survey.
A clear winner with more than 41 percent of the votes, the modern and spacious hub saw off competition from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta in second, which picked up 4.6 percent of the responses, impressing families with its two play areas, TVs, games, children’s art gallery, and dinosaur exhibition.
London Heathrow was named the most family-friendly international airport. A quarter of respondents appreciated its infant feeding and changing rooms, play areas and arcades for children of all ages, as well as free crayons and coloring books available on request.
Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam finished second in the international category, with nearly a fifth of the votes, thanks to its slides, wagons, Lego sections, and computer games. Frankfurt Airport, Germany, came third with 8 percent, courtesy of its multiple kids’ zones.
London Gatwick and Singapore’s Changi Airport finished fourth and fifth internationally.
“With the emphasis on families, more and more parents are choosing to take their children with them, not just to see grandma, but on international vacations,” said Cheryl Hudak, ASTA President and Chief Executive.
“Anyone who has traveled with small children knows what a life-saver a family-friendly airport can be.”
In the US, Denver International and Tampa International – both replete with designated play areas for children – were tied for third place.
Charlotte-Douglas International in North Carolina finished fourth, ahead of Detroit Metro Airport, which has four play zones.
