Flyers don’t like out-of-date hotels, and so hoteliers renovate every few years. They know you’ll take your business elsewhere if they’re not on the cutting edge. Airport hotels are especially susceptible.

If you’re flying into Washington Dulles International, 26 miles east of downtown D.C., know that the airport Marriott has just completed a $9.3 million makeover.

The revamped Washington Dulles Airport Marriott is one of the most ascetically-pleasing properties going. It overlooks a little lake at IAD, putting the rest of the hurried planet into a bit of perspective. Now that the renovation’s complete, the hotel is even better. The new design concept reflects architect Eero Saarinen’s original design of Dulles itself.

Dulles’ famous, soaring wing-like roof is reflected in the lobby’s great room and bar area. The colors are relaxing, refreshing – just like the rest of the property. Look around and lose your self in the aviation artifacts that populate the space. The great room and bar area are a gathering place where you can grab a bite to eat, plug in your PDA, and plan for the day’s events ahead.

If you’ve the inclination, the Udvar-Hazy Smithsonian Air and Space Museum is a short drive away. See the space shuttle Enterprise, the Concorde, and the Enola Gay – all at one extraordinary site.

Here a couple of other reasons to consider this Marriott rather than booking a room in distant downtown D.C.: the Wolf Trap Center for Performing Arts is comparatively nearby, as are some of Virginia’s best wineries.
