Could there be any holiday that celebrates summer harder than “Play in the Sand Day?” This Sunday’s holiday is practically begging you to make a break for sandy shores, so we’ve rounded up some of the best places to play in the sand.

Hanalei Bay, Hawaii

Kauai’s Hanalei Bay offers two miles of breathtaking shores — quite the feat when you consider the beauty of its neighboring Hawaiian beaches. Still, Hanalei Bay stands above the rest for its white sugary sands, rolling green mountains and glassy blue waters. Even more impressive is the crescent-shaped shore’s ability to avoid crowded shores despite its striking charm.

Palm Beach, Aruba

Aruba’s Palm Beach is known for its pristine white sand and calm, picture-perfect waters. Sunny and warm weather year round attracts a steady stream of families looking for a tropical and sandy escape. If you’re looking to explore the water, Aruba offers sublime conditions for fishing, diving and jet skiing.

Anse Source d’Argent, Seychelles

Seychelles nabbed the top spot on National Geographic’s list of Top 10 Beaches, and it’s easy to see why. Granite boulders lay the groundwork for beaches known for their pink sand and shallow turquoise waters. Thankfully, this unspoiled beach lacks the resorts and bustle found at many of the other most beautiful beaches around the world. Since it’s largely off the mainstream tourist’s radar, Anse Source d’Argent is also free of the crowds that many other beaches attract.

Coronado, California

Just off the coast of San Diego, the island of Coronado offers some of the city’s best beaches. The sands and surf of Coronado are favorites with sandcastle-building families, wave-seeking surfers and beachcombers with their furry Fidos in tow. While you’re enjoying Coronado’s beaches, don’t miss a chance to pop into the nearby Hotel Del Coronado, a grand historic hotel that’s also one of the oldest structures in California.

Tulum, Mexico

There’s no better way to soak up the white limestone sands of Tulum than with an ice cold Mexican beer and a plate of freshly made seafood ceviche. The beautifully azure waters are lined with cliffs and Mayan ruins, adding to the picturesque scenery you can enjoy from the sandy shores.

Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

South Carolina’s Myrtle Beach is one of the most popular sandy destinations on the East Coast. With 60 miles of soft sand to enjoy, it’s all too easy to surrender to a day or two of soaking up the sun along The Strand. Nearby, you’ll find family-friendly attractions like roller coasters and aquariums to keep the family happy.
