Aerolineas Argentinas is Argentina's state-owned flagship carrier, with its headquarters and main hubs in Buenos Aires. It operates domestic flights and select international destinations in Central and South America, the US and Europe. The airline is a member of the SkyTeam alliance, along with Delta Air Lines, KLM, and Air France.
I’ve found Aerolineas Argentinas cabins reasonably comfortable, if not lavish, and the airline’s crew is generally accommodating.
The Argentinean capital of Buenos Aires has two airports, both hubs for the national airline. Most of Aerolineas Argentinas’ regional and domestic flights operate out of Aeroparque Jorge Newbery (AEP), near the capital. The airline’s international and some regional and domestic flights operate out of Ministro Pistarini International Airport, also known as Ezeiza (EZE), 14 miles south of Buenos Aires.
Buenos Aires has heavy traffic in the normal course of business and sees frequent labor protests that sometimes halt traffic. This could impact your journey to and from the airport. When I lived in Buenos Aires, I found it wise to follow local news to stay informed on where protests would occur and leave extra time to get to the airport.
Sometimes, labor actions will shut down the airports completely and halt airline service. These events are usually announced well in advance and the airline makes every effort to accommodate customers on different flights. Still, I recommend having a budget allowance for at least a couple of days beyond what you planned when traveling to Argentina.
The airline operates a fleet of 9 Airbus A330-200 aircraft on long-haul and high-capacity flights. It operates 42 Boeing 737s and 20 Embraer E-Jets on mid-haul, regional and domestic flights.
Each aircraft type has variants, and the cabin product and arrangement differ. Aerolineas Argentinas offers two classes of service on its A330s: economy and business. On its Boeing 737 and Embraer planes, the airline offers premium economy and economy class.
Economy class on most of the airline’s A330-200 planes is arranged in a 2-4-2 configuration, except for the last four rows, which are 2-3-2 with two additional twins behind them on either side of the lavatories. Seats are 17” wide and set 31” apart, with extra legroom available on the exit row. Economy class seats offer 124º recline, though recline is restricted on the last row of seats before the bulkheads and at the back. In-flight entertainment screens are 9”.
On 6 of its A330-200s, the airline provides a well-maintained but older business-class cabin with twin seating in a 2-2-2 arrangement. These are angled recline shell seats with a maximum 150º recline, not full lay-flat seats. Window seats have no direct aisle access. The seats are just under 20” wide and set 60” apart, so there is some room to walk around your sleeping neighbor. The in-flight entertainment screen on these seats is 16”.
On two newer A330-200s, the airline offers an updated business class seat in an alternating 1-2-2 and 1-2-1 configuration, which means more seats have direct aisle access. These seats offer a full 180º recline, so you can lay flat to sleep. They are just under 20” wide and set 44” apart. The in-flight entertainment screen is 16”.
Two of the airline’s A330-200 aircraft have different business and economy seats.
Business class on these aircraft is also in a 2-2-2 configuration. The 20” wide seats recline at 162º and are not lay-flat. They are set 73” apart and have 12” in-flight entertainment screens.
Economy class seats are arranged in a 2-4-2 configuration, except for the back rows which are 2-3-2. They are 17” wide and set 30” apart with a 124º recline. The in-flight entertainment screens are 10”.
The airline’s Boeing 737 cabins offer premium economy and economy class class. Premium economy takes up the first two rows on the aircraft and offers recliner chair-style seats. These are similar to first-class domestic US seats. The seats are in a 2-2 configuration. They are 21” wide and set 36” apart.
I recommend booking Premium Economy if your flight is longer or you need to make a tight connection. When flying out of Buenos Aires Ministro Pistarini International Airport (EZE), you can also take advantage of the airline’s lounge with a Premium Economy ticket.
Economy class seats are arranged in a 3-3 configuration and are 17” wide, set 30” apart, with more legroom in the exit rows.
The airline’s Embraer 190 aircraft offer comfort on regional flights. They feature premium economy and economy cabins. Premium economy seats on the E-190 are arranged in a 1-2 configuration. They are 19.5” wide and set 38” apart.
Economy class seats are arranged in a 2-2 configuration. They are 18” wide and set 31” apart.
Aerolineas Argentina’s Embraer 190 aircraft seats have in-flight entertainment screens: 9” in premium economy and 7” in economy.
Aerolineas Argentinas offers two meal services on international flights. A hot dish of pasta, fish, or poultry is available for lunch or dinner in business class. Breakfast consists of a hot dish accompanied by assorted breads and fruit. Aerolineas Argentinas provides two meal services in economy class on international flights: a hot lunch or dinner dish and a cold breakfast tray. The airline also serves a selection of wines, beers, and hot and cold beverages in both classes.
On domestic flights, in premium economy, Aerolineas Argentinas offers a cold dish and an assortment of hot and cold beverages. In economy class, on flights under 2.5 hours, the airline only serves water. I recommend packing a snack to bring with you or buying something at the airport before departing. The airline serves a snack and a selection of hot and cold beverages on flights longer than 2.5 hours.
On regional flights, Aerolineas Argentinas offers the same service as domestic flights over 2.5 hours, with two exceptions. On flights to Lima, Peru and Bogotá, Colombia, the airline serves a hot meal tray in premium economy and a cold meal tray in economy class. Also, the airline only serves water on flights to Montevideo and Punta del Este in Uruguay.
Unlike airlines that hire Michelin star chefs to design their menus, Aerolineas Argentinas does not seek to define its brand in gastronomy. The food is nourishing if uninspiring. Still, overall, I’ve found their meals are adequate, and portions are generous.
Aerolineas Argentinas offers a selection of films, series, and audio to keep passengers entertained on longer flights. The content catalog is limited compared to other carriers, but I find there is enough there to help pass the time.
You can charge your devices with USB power outlets on the Airbus A330-200 (except on Type 3), all Embraer 190s, and the airline’s Boeing 737 MAX 8 planes.
Though not currently available, the airline has announced plans to offer in-flight Wi-Fi on select flights starting in 2025.
The number of bags you can bring or check without additional charge on Aerolineas Argentinas flights varies by the type of fare you booked.
All passengers can bring one personal item onboard to fit under the seat in front. It cannot exceed 15 cm x 30 cm x 40 cm (15.75 in x 5.91 in x 11.81 in) or weigh more than 3 kg (6.61 lbs). Some fares include a carry-on bag in the overhead bin with maximum dimensions of 25 cm x 35 cm x 55 cm (9.84 in x 13.78 in x 21.65 in). The weight limit for carry-on bags is 8 kg (17.64 lbs) on domestic flights and 10 kg (22 lbs). Some tickets also include checked luggage.
I recommend checking the luggage allowance included with your ticket before completing your booking. You can purchase an added baggage allowance directly on the airline’s website if you need to bring extra bags.
The airline operates a single branded lounge at Ministro Pistarini International Airport (EZE) in Buenos Aires. The light and airy Salón Condor is a comfortable waiting space for your flight. In addition to various zones for work, dining, and rest, the lounge has a dedicated PlayStation gaming room and a children’s room.
Those traveling with pets can bring their furry friends into the lounge, but pets must remain in a carrier.
Dining consists of a buffet service, offering a selection of hot and cold dishes and snacks. Beverages include alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.
Lounge access is included in Business and Premium Economy tickets. The airline sells lounge access to other passengers based on availability. You can book a lounge pass online with the airline before your flight. SkyTeam Elite Plus passengers and those flying with business tickets on partner airlines can access the lounge free of charge.
Aerolineas Argentinas also offers access to lounges in other cities through its SkyTeam partners.
