For budget travelers: Glasgow, Scotland
Looking to visit Europe, but worried it’s too pricey? Consider Glasgow, Scotland, this June. According to Cheapflights data, airfare for flights in June is 11 percent lower than the average price found for the year. And, with so much to see and much of it free, the savings will continue once you’re there. Check out the number of free museums and galleries, including Kelingrove Art Gallery, the Gallery of Modern Art and the Riverside Museum. You can also enjoy the gorgeous public parks and gardens throughout the city (more than 90, in fact).
For weather watchers: Honolulu, Hawaii
With an average June temperature of 83 degrees Fahrenheit and an average rainfall of a mere 1.8 inches (the least rainy month of the year), June is an ideal time to visit the Aloha State. Crowds and hotel rates are moderate in June, not yet at their peak, which typically occurs in the prime months of July and August. Fly into Honolulu, which is a major hub and won’t require additional transportation costs. Looking to travel without breaking the bank? For the best of both: Key West, Florida
To keep costs reasonable and also take advantage of prime weather, consider hitting Key West, Fla., right before the start of summer officially hits. June is, on average, one of the most affordable months for Key West airfare compared with the rest of the year, and the daytime temperature is generally in the mid-to-high eighties. Stay cool on the water with plenty of opportunities for sailing, snorkeling, stand-up paddleboarding, fishing and more. At night, head to Duval Street for music and cocktails — be sure to indulge in a daiquiri at Sloppy Joe’s Bar, a Key West staple.
For trendsetters: Guayaquil, Ecuador
Based on the spike in flight searches we’re seeing for travel to Guayaquil, Ecuador, for June 2017, it looks like this Pacific beach town and jumping-off spot for travel to the Galapagos Islands is a hot spot in the making. With average temperatures in the eighties and only half an inch of rain on average, June is a great time to check out this burgeoning destination. While it’s often used as a stopover for the Galapagos (a bucket list must for nature enthusiasts looking to extend their trip), it also offers a lot to do in its own right. Explore the culture and rich history of the area, wander the waterfront and be sure to stop by Seminario Park, commonly known as Iguana Park for the friendly local animal that frequents the grounds.
For advanced planners: New York, New York
Surprisingly, we’re finding that the cheapest time of the year to fly to New York City is the lull between Thanksgiving and Christmas when the city is pulsing with holiday cheer. Look to book in early June to buy a bargain flight for the last week of November or first week of December. Early planning now will mean an epic holiday adventure in the Big Apple. Enjoy skating in Central Park, scoping out festive decorations (including the tree at Rockefeller Center, which is lit each year in early December) and, of course, plenty of prime spots for holiday shopping.
