Peak Season
Summers in St. Louis are hot and humid, but this is also the best time to visit if you want to take part in the riverfront activities. St. Louis is a big baseball town, and the St. Louis Cardinals draw thousands of fans a year. If you're planning to visit St. Louis during the spring and summer seasons, book flights early and make accommodations ahead of time. The city gets full fast.
Off Season
St. Louis is prone to long, cold winters. The city all but shuts down during the wintertime and while many tourist attractions are open to the public, none of the outside activities are much fun in the snow. However, if you're heading to St. Louis for some football time or to explore the excellent museums, you're likely to find a cheap flight to St. Louis in the winter.

The St. Louis MetroLink connects the downtown regions and is a great way to travel throughout the city. It's possible to access the majority of St. Louis tourist attractions via the Metro, so a car isn't necessary. There are MetroLink shuttle buses that will transport travelers from some attractions to the nearest MetroLink station. Travelers can pick up a MetroLink shuttle service map at any of the MetroLink stations, or at first attraction. MetroBus network is part of the same network, but extends throughout St. Louis counties.
Renting a car is also an option. St. Louis is a very easy city to navigate and parking is abundant throughout the city. However, if you plan to drive to the suburbs of St. Louis the navigation becomes a little tricky. St. Louis is currently undergoing a major highway overhaul on I-40 -- the highway that runs East-West and connects downtown St. Louis to the rest of the area. Top tourist neighborhoods including University City, Central West End and Clayton can be complicated to get to since exits on I-40 are closed to traffic during the construction. Make sure to check with your hotel concierge or a local before hitting the highway in your rental car.
Taxi stands are located at most major hotels around the city and at common tourist attractions. Cabs can also be reserved ahead of time.
