Let us speak, then, of birds, blues and beer – and not necessarily in that order. A couple of West Coast festivals of note are coming up, both of them in Oregon:

The Annual Spring Beer & Wine Festival, billed as the nation’s largest Springtime alcoholic event, runs April 6 through 7 at Portland’s Oregon Convention Center. Savor handcrafted beer, wine, cider, mead and assorted distilled spirits. Anchor your digestive system in something solid and hop aboard the Tour de Cheese. Get schooled at the Chef’s Stage. Tune in to the sounds of local Northwestern Bands – an in-sync backdrop to the event. Get there really early and get in gratis. The first 1,000 folks to show up enter for free.

Pacific City Oregon is the site of the 9th Annual Birding & Blues Festival the weekend of April 13, 14 and 15. Hear photographer Terry Steele talk about his passion for nature and all its bounty. Take the Three Capes Scenic Tour along the coast with expert birders and a wildlife refuge specialist from US Fish & Wildlife. You can learn the lessons of local nature form credentialed naturalists and birders here, learn them so well that the world becomes a bit more wondrous. Counterbalance the quiet tranquility of this special slice of the country with a Friday concern featuring The Purple Cats at Oar House Bar & Grill.

If you believe in balancing your life—a little yin, a touch of yang—Pacific City just might be the place to give it a try.
